The Large Area Destined to Become a Solar Farm at Potterne
Part of a developer’s responsibilities prior to excavating on a green field site are the required archaeological investigations. They vary in site and scope, but very often require some level of vehicular or plant access on unmade/agricultural land.
Greenfield developments often cover large site areas and require rapid, low-cost surveys to assess the archaeological potential before any construction work is undertaken. The typical targets found are:
- Settlement sites and ditches
- Field suystems and enclosures
- Buried pits, kilns and industrial sites
